The Esplande is one of nine key projects identified in the
Public Realm Strategy. The strategy sets
out nine areas that could be remodeled to improve the
appearance of the town and make it easier to move around.
Seafront / Esplanade

Art and Architecture practice Tonkin Liu proved themselves the
most exciting design team in a national competition to find a
designer for Dover’s Esplanade. Tonkin Liu, together with landscape
consultants REMAPP and JMP transport and urban planners beat off
strong competition from leading landscape designers from all over
UK and abroad to win this prestigious competition. The team’s track
record is notable for projects such as ‘The singing ringing tree’
in Lancashire and London’s Promenade of Light.
The planning application (application no. DOV/09/00729) for the
seafront has been submitted and can be viewed on Dover

The scheme will cost £2m of which half will come from central
government through the Sea Change programme and the
remainder from partners (KCC, DDC and DHB). The project will take
up to 2 years to complete and starts on the ground this Winter.
